As I began working on our photographic representations I became aware of the vast amount of images that are out there and a felt lost about where to begin. As my search commenced I was natural drawn to specific images. I would feel that something about them stood out to me. It could simply be the content and what they represented about me but many times it was more than that. There was an underlying theme to the photo that I could relate to. After curating a final selection of images I began composing them and created this final image.
One of the first characteristics about my collage is that it is formed with equal square photos in rows. I thought that this helped to create a framework to the piece, but it also represents my own tendency to want things with organization. The first image in the piece is a picture of me. Out of all the images I have of myself I chose to include this one as it contributed to the overall theme but also shows my want to explore the world and enjoy what it has to offer. The imagery in this composition each represents some part of me. I have included a book for my love of fiction, and a typewriter to show that I enjoy the art of writing and creating moods with simple words. The images of city lights and streets show an environment of people and constant action. It is an atmosphere that I find intriguing and exciting. However I have also included images that show nature and a much calmer, serene environment. Whenever I can I love to get out into nature and enjoy what is around me. The moments away from city life give me time to reflect and slow down the pace of a busy lifestyle. Another significant picture that I choose to use was that of a compass, an object that embodies my desire to travel and explore the planet. Overall I think all these images are excellent. Not only because of their relevance to me but because they capture mood, story and subject.
