The weather begins to cool, and the green leaves merge into a harmony of yellow, red and brown. Autumn has always been my favourite season, a subject I enjoy representing though my photography. Each image in the series is different in content and composition, but still connected through a common thread; my experience of fall. The subjects in each photo depict a different experience I associate with this time in the year. When creating each individual image, the idea always started with how I could show the viewer my perspective. The different skills I have accumulated and learned are shown throughout the series such as composition, depth of field, and capturing motion. With this process I was able to create a series with a larger theme of what fall is to me. I hoped to make the viewer not just see the image but feel what I was portraying and be able to connect with the photo. Each image contributes to a feeling of warmth, through the content but also by the elements that are most obvious, such as colour. Autumn is evidently a time a changing colour and warm hues, which is uniquely seen in each photo. Another important element of design for me was to show texture, to allow the imagination to feel by the means of sight.
I feel that my goal of characterizing my experiences of fall was achieved in my work. The images each show a different sense that I connect with the season, from the visual taste of a warm drink to the texture of a blanket. In creating this work I was able to develop my photographic skills in many ways. I have learned in the realm technical variables but also of showing mood and feeling in images. I feel that this will reflect in my future work as I strive to make the viewer perceive something when they view my photography.
