This project took me on an interesting path, not only did it allow me to discover photographic potential in Photoshop but it also gave me the challenge to explore a concept and display my story in a visual photograph. When doing this project the original prompt for all of us was “Escape”. It got me thinking of why and how one escapes and how relevant it is in our lives. When thinking of escape many of us visualize the elaborate scenes from movies and books in which someone is to escape a dangerous situation. However all of us are always escaping as well, whether that be escaping reality by reading or enveloping your mind when doing art. All of us want to break from confinement and escape.
In my artwork I hope to bring the viewers attention to the main subject in the middle of the photo. The subject is levitating in the air and surrounded by playing cards. When creating the image I focused on specific elements and principles that would contribute to my art, such as colour, tone, contrast and repetition. The items and tone of the image come together to represent on theme; fate. My title “The Prisoners of Fate” reflects that all of us believe that our fate is written in stone. We are tied to the future that is to come. I want the work to show that although it may seem that fate is final we can always escape its restrains to write our own future. A goal behind the piece is that people relate their own emotions and stories to the concept of being prisoner to your fate. In creating this artwork I discovered many things. It gave me a new skill in which to manipulate my photos and also let me practice representing concepts in my art.
