We experience the world through senses. We use sight, touch, taste, smell, and sound. When we make art one of the main goals is to appeal to the senses of the watcher. This can be a challenge but the results are amazing. These pictures with texture really evoke a feeling in the person, like they are touching with their eyes.
This picture was one that I really loved. In my eyes the composition is strong as it has lines and follows the rule of thirds. My main objective was to capture the rough, jagged and sharp feeling of the bark. I also had to work with my manual focus, a skill which I am feeling quite confident in. In this particular composition I had the choice of focusing in on the foreground, middle ground and background. The background of leaves seemed insufficient to the texture of the bark and focusing on the foreground wasn't giving the eyes enough room to "feel" the texture. I decided on middle ground as my point of interest and I loved the finished product. Experimenting with texture was a great challenge this week.
